About us

Jane (Callahan) Dornemann was trained as an end-of-life doula through the International End of Life Doula Association (INELDA) and earned a professional certificate as an end-of-life doula from the University of Vermont's Larner College of Medicine. She is also a member, and proficiency badge holder of, the National End-of-Life Doula Alliance (NEDA).

She volunteers with Duke Hospice in Durham. Jane hosts educational sessions about end-of-life matters at venues in Durham, Chapel Hill, and Cary, and has cultivated a community of fellow doulas and death workers in the Triangle area.

A Brooklynite turned Carolinian, Jane has been practicing as an end-of-life doula since 2018. Her career path has wound around education, communications, and journalism (publishing under her maiden surname, Callahan).

In addition to her doula training, Jane holds a Master's Degree in English from the University of Hawaii, where she wrote a thesis about her summer living in a Virginia commune. She has backpacked the world--much of it on her own--and has lived in three foreign countries and five U.S. cities. She resides in Durham with her husband, son, and two dogs.

Jane (Callahan) Moore trained as an end-of-life doula through the International End of Life Doula Association (INELDA), and received additional training through Hebrew Senior Life Hospice in Dedham, MA. She is a member of the Threshold Singers of the Triangle, a chapter of the international Threshold Choir whose mission is to bring comfort and peace through singing to those at the end of life. She is also a volunteer at the Hock Family Pavilion Hospice at Duke Health.

Now retired, Jane has more than 45 years experience as a social worker providing services to families in distress and crisis. In addition to her doula training, she has a Master’s Degree in Social Work and a Certificate in Child Therapy. Jane is committed to helping individuals and families live their best lives, from beginning to end.

Jane grew up in the Bronx, New York, lived in the Boston, MA area for many years, and moved to Durham in 2023 to be close to the people she loves. She is an accomplished weaver and earned a Bachelor’s in Fine Arts from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design in 2006. Accompanied by her adorable dachshund, she enjoys exploring the abundant green spaces of Durham and surrounding counties.
