A death packet is a comprehensive collection of documents and instructions that your surviving loved ones will need to handle your affairs. This goes well beyond a will and can include online subscription logins, car registrations, an obituary, personal letters, funeral arrangements, and step-by-step instructions on what needs to be done after your passing.
Why should I make one?
Preparing a death packet is one of the biggest gifts you can leave behind for your loved ones. The grief that comes with loss is overwhelming, and often, the immediate needs of one's funeral and estate delay the grieving process and can create conflict within a family. How does it work?
We work with you to create a customized list of everything you need and want in your death packet. That consultation generates a customized list of action items that we help you complete (for example, confirming that your designated beneficiary is listed on certain accounts). We can provide a list of referrals in Durham that will help you prepare for your estate, and family, for death. Once all outstanding items are addressed, we help you compile your death packet and execute a notification plan. We also offer digital options for document storage.
